Why Do I Notice Sounds or Pressure When Using ANC on My soundcore Q31i?

When using ANC, you may notice some sounds or sensations that seem unusual. Most of these are normal results of how ANC works and are not faults. This guide explains what you may notice and how to handle them.

Ear Pressure

Since the headphone enters ANC mode by default when powered on and the ANC depth is strong, you may notice a noticeable ear pressure sensation—especially if you are sensitive to pressure changes. You can relieve this by:

  1. Lowering the ANC level in the soundcore app.

  2. Switching to another mode.

Bass Sounds More Pronounced

After ANC is enabled, the bass may sound more pronounced. This is a normal result of ANC processing. You can adjust the sound via different EQ presets or a custom EQ in the soundcore app.

Popping Sounds

When using ANC mode, you may occasionally hear a brief popping sound. This is related to changes in air pressure inside the ear cushions and can happen in a few situations.

  • When pressing the ear shell: Pressing the ear cushion changes its shape and temporarily changes the air pressure inside the ear cup, causing a popping sound. This is normal and usually disappears after release. If the sound persists after release, try adjusting the headphone's wearing position.

  • When not touching the headphones: In ANC mode, you may hear a brief popping sound during movements such as riding in a car on bumpy roads, walking downhill, or jumping and landing. These movements can momentarily change the seal of the ear cushions, and the effect varies by person depending on wearing fit and head shape. To reduce this:

    • Adjust the headband to improve the overall fit.

    • Adjust the ear cushion position so it sits more evenly against your head.

Slight Background Hiss (Electronic Background Noise)

When no audio is playing, Bluetooth headphones may produce a faint hissing sound. This is normal electronic background noise caused by signal processing and cannot be completely eliminated. You can test whether the noise is still noticeable while playing media content.

Slight Background Noise or Humming

After enabling ANC, you may notice a slight background noise. This is related to how ANC works and the wearing fit:

  1. Adjust the fit — Ensure the ear cushions sit evenly and tightly against your head. A poor seal may produce extra noise, especially in low-frequency environments, or a continuous humming sound when low-frequency noise is present.

  2. Check the sound source — Take off the headphones and confirm whether the sound is actually coming from the environment. ANC reduces noise through a combination of active cancellation and physical sound insulation, rather than removing it entirely.

  3. Contact us if needed — If the background noise is clearly excessive (not the normal slight humming), or the issue persists after trying the steps above, it may indicate a product issue. Please contact our after-sales team—we will evaluate whether a suitable firmware update is available, or arrange a replacement if needed.

Transparency Mode Amplifies Ambient Sound

Transparency mode is designed to help you hear your surroundings, so ambient sounds may be slightly amplified. Try testing in a quieter environment to confirm whether the volume is normal.
