If the ambient sound effect seems to shift while you're wearing the earbuds, it usually traces back to one of the following. Each one is the earbuds working as designed.
Wind Noise Reduction Switching On and Off
The wind noise reduction algorithm activates when you enter a windy environment and turns off automatically when you leave, which can briefly change the effect you hear.
Adaptive Mode Adjusting in Real Time
Adaptive Mode adjusts continuously based on the noise level around you — stronger in noisy environments, and leaning toward Transparency Mode in quiet ones.
This is also why Adaptive Mode can seem to have little effect in a quiet room: it's leaning toward Transparency Mode so you stay aware of your surroundings. Testing it in a louder space shows the difference more clearly.
One Earbud Has Been Removed
When both earbuds are in Noise Cancellation Mode, removing one switches the other to Normal Mode. Putting both back in restores noise cancellation automatically.
If You Want a Consistent Effect
Select a fixed mode and level rather than Adaptive Mode, under Home > Ambient Sound. A fixed mode gives you direct control and won't adjust on its own.
