Anker Liberty Buds 2 has three ambient sound modes — Noise Cancellation, Transparency, and Normal — plus Adaptive Mode, which switches between them for you. This article covers what each one does so you can match it to what you're doing. You'll find all of them under Home > Ambient Sound in the soundcore app.

Noise Cancellation Mode

This mode reduces the ambient noise around you. It has five levels, grouped into two ranges.

Natural (Levels 1-4)

Natural reduces ambient sound evenly, making your surroundings quieter while keeping them clear. Level 1 is the lightest reduction and Level 4 is the strongest within Natural.

• Good for: offices, libraries, concerts, or anywhere you want fewer distractions while staying aware of what's around you.

• Path: Home > Ambient Sound > Noise Cancellation > Natural > Levels 1-4.

Deep (Level 5)

Deep gives you the strongest noise reduction available, significantly reducing environmental noise on airplanes, subways, and in noisy offices.

• Good for: flights, loud transit, or any time you want greater immersion, focus, or quiet.

• Not ideal for: situations where you still need to hear your surroundings, such as walking near traffic.

Scene Presets

Two presets are tuned for specific environments, under Home > Ambient Sound > Noise Cancellation Mode:

• Airplane Mode: for especially loud, sustained environments.

• Car Mode: for travel on bumpy roads.

Transparency Mode

Transparency Mode lets outside sound through naturally, so you can hear conversations, traffic, and announcements without taking the earbuds out.

• Good for: commuting, walking outdoors, and office use.

• Not ideal for: blocking out noise — use Noise Cancellation Mode instead.

Because Transparency Mode also lets through anything sudden or loud, two features pair well with it:

• Smart Hearing Protection steps in automatically when a sudden loud sound occurs (Home > Transparency Mode > HearGuard).

• Maximum Volume Limit caps how loud your in-ear audio can get (Hearing Health > Settings > Volume Limit, available in the latest app version).

Normal Mode

Normal Mode turns off both noise cancellation and Transparency Mode, leaving your audio unprocessed.

• Good for: quiet surroundings, and getting the longest playtime from a charge.

• Also useful as a reference point: switching to Normal Mode tells you whether a sound you're hearing comes from one of the other modes.

Adaptive Mode

Adaptive Mode reads your environment and adjusts automatically, leaning toward Transparency Mode in quiet spaces and toward stronger noise cancellation in loud ones.

• Good for: a day with mixed environments, where you'd rather not switch modes manually.

• Not ideal for: when you want consistent, predictable noise cancellation regardless of your surroundings — a fixed mode gives you more direct control.

Switching Between Modes

• On the earbuds: press and hold either earbud for 2 seconds. The default cycle is Noise Cancellation > Transparency. Normal Mode is not part of the default cycle, but you can add it in the soundcore app under Ambient Sound settings.

• In the app: select any mode directly under Home > Ambient Sound.

After you switch, the earbuds may take a few seconds to adjust and reach the intended effect. This is normal.
