1. The root cause of the issue
When using the S1 Pro, you may encounter situations where the robot cannot enter and clean certain areas under furniture, such as sofas, beds, and cabinets. This is usually due to the robot's inability to accurately recognize the height of these areas, causing it to avoid them. This article is designed to help you understand the cause of this specific issue and provide solutions to solve it.
2. Reasons for the robot's inaccurate recognition
2.1 Limitations of 3D sensors
The robot's 3D sensors can successfully recognize the height (the bottom space of furniture). However, due to the differences in detection angles and material reflectivity, the recognition effect of furniture will vary. In addition, the thickness of the floor carpet will also affect the measurement results of the 3D sensors. These factors may cause the robot to misjudge the height of certain areas and avoid these areas.
3. Solution
If the robot should have entered but did not enter certain areas, please try the following troubleshooting steps to solve the issue.
3.1 Make sure the firmware has been the latest one
3.2 Adjust the pass height in the app
Set and choose the appropriate bridge height in the app on your mobile phone. Please note that the app provides three modes for users to choose from:
- Safe Mode (Recommended): This mode minimizes the risk of the robot getting stuck in spaces with a low clearance height (e.g., under the sofa). However, the robot may avoid entering narrow areas to prevent it from getting stuck.
- Medium Mode: This mode balances the robot's exploration capabilities with a reduced risk of getting stuck. This mode is generally suitable if the robot runs cleaning cycles daily.
- Free Mode: This mode is ideal for spacious environments with minimal obstacles under furniture. However, please note that it may increase the risk of the robot getting stuck in spaces with a low clearance height.
When you select Safe Mode, the robot will use its front bumper sensor to detect the height. Before using Safe Mode, it is recommended that you do the following:
- Check for places in the home where the robot may get stuck.
- Raise th height of the furniture. By raising the height of the furniture, it may prevent the robot from getting stuck.
- Use the "No-go zone" function in the app to prevent the robot from entering areas where it may get stuck.
